Repeat and repeat

At the stage of the year where each week just goes on and on.

Keep trudging along

Uni here is just 12 straight weeks of lectures, tutorials, tutoring, staying at home and repeat. It might be because of the excess freedom, or because I still don’t have the clearest of goals in mind for myself, but it gets to the point where since there’s no special school event, or anything to really think about during the semester, I’ve lost count of whichever week of school we’re at now (something I usually never do). I just rock up, attend a few tutes, meet a few friends, go home, tutor and sleep. And repeat.

A much needed change

But repetition isn’t always a drab. Repetition when you’re on autopilot, going nowhere might not be great, but when it’s repetition to build up into something that improves me and I enjoy, it’s definitely worth it. Waking up early, catching the morning sun, working out, sleeping early, I’ve felt like the past few weeks have been possibly the best change to my health and lifestyle that I’ve ever had. No longer do I feel tired throughout the day, no longer do I need to take any naps, no longer do I stay in bed scrolling away on my phone until its already past lunchtime. I could only wish I could go back to my high school self and explain all of this to him, those late nights last year now seem so naive, wasteful and detrimental to my health. I think there was something in it where I thought being able to show up to school on little sleep made me cooler somehow; I think that’s pure stupidity. I would be tired, taking afternoon naps, waking up past dinner, not even effectively working the rest of the night.

At least I’ve gotten the hang of it recently, and even if it is a bit repetitive, I now wake up feeling many times more energetic and eager to start the day.

A rant on reminders

I've been trying to set up a system to make my time use much more intentional, with blocks in my calendar aimed at knocking off to-dos in my reminders app (relating to uni work, forms, etc.). But its my reminders app which has annoyed me a little. I've only really just thought about this, but there is a huge difference between a due date and a do date. For example, let's say I'm doing an assignment. On the reminders app, I can put a date. But which date do I choose? Should it be the date the task is due or the date that I plan to do it?

I know that there are some apps which allow for both setting a date/time to complete a task, as well as a deadline flag. But I just wonder why this isn't standard across all reminders apps, or am I just missing some way of implementing it. Overall, just a minor headache but ideally it'd be fixed.

Plans for next week

  1. Time block my calendar more effectively
  2. Knock off my to-dos one by one
  3. Eat healthy most days
